DECIMATION OF PUBLIC BODIES BEGINS IN EARNEST

Want to access over 1000 years of history at the National Archive? You'd better be quick

The Torygraph today reports on a leaked document outlining ConDem coalition plans to scrap 177 quangos with a further 94 also under threat.

We all know that quangos often get bad press, and frequently for good reason, and there’s no doubt that some of these bodies are past their sell by date or simply not worth the money.

But take a long hard look at some of the organisations to be canned. Do we really want to wave farewell to the BBC World Service, The National Archives, the UK Film Council and the Forestry Commission?
